Solution & slides for Kalpakjian's book "Manufacturing Engineering & Technology"

I manage to download the solution for Kalpakjian’s book and also their slides for the big text. I think it’s a good effort by Edward Pang, maybe the author from Malaysia who did a SI conversion for Kalpakjian’s book. Kalpakjian’s manufacturing book is pretty much too bulky, with many references to other pages or chapters or even outside references. This make it quite not user friendly for beginners. Maybe ok for intermediate or expert user. The slides pretty much sum up most of the thick book, in point form. I have read through the book before and the slides are good. Trying to teach without the slides is a big task. The slides are really a good help. You can get this if you are instructor of the course where you buy a big amount for your students. I manage to help sold about 60 copies. This book can be used in two subjects at least and it’s good for all time reference.

Fasting - Be in peace with oneself!

I’m able to wake up for sahur & ate my fasting breakfast. After that I went to the nearby mosque & pray in jemaah(congregation), something I’ve never done for a very long time. I usually wake up a bit late & pray at home. I’ve been in Jemaah tabligh before where we are put in a mosque & therefore we’re always pray in congregation. It’s good to make your mind and body adapt to the going-to-the-mosque culture. It’s something I should do again as for now it’s very hard for me to go pray in congregation during all solat time. Today it’s a good start. It’s always good to start something in the holy month of Ramadan. I feel at peace, my stomach is empty, I feel more focused & relaxed. This is a good month to be in peace with oneself & reflect about we’re doing, and where we’re going in this life & the hereafter.

Fasting times around the Globe!

I am breaking my fast with…teng teng teng teng trengggg…u guessed it right a lot of stuff. I’ve been doing that since the 1st and 2nd day because I was at my parent’s place & there are just too much food. I try to minimize today but maybe, the hunger pangs just kept me carried away. At the end, I bought 2 burgers, rice + chicken + tempe(fried soy) + a loaf of bread. I ate half my rice & a burger and I’m full. Maybe the other burger can go with a nice French toast during Sahur. Sahur is sort-off breakfast in the morning except you do it much earlier. In Malaysia u fast from 5:30am to 7:10pm almost 14 hours. When I was in Canada, I was lucky to have fasted during the winter time. The fasting time was quite short, from maybe 8am to 4pm, just about 8 hours. My friends at that moment in Australia were having hard times as they fast from 3am to 9pm, that’s 18 hours, due to summer. What about those never ending sun in Norway, people might have to fast all day. Anyway fasting is done

Appreciate Ramadan!

Today, during our lunch break, we don’t have lunch. I was a bit late and I can’t join the ‘tadarrus’. ‘Tadarrus’ is recitation of Al-Quran which is done in a group. However I manage to slip by & after my Zuhr prayer I and my colleagues are listening to ‘tazkirah’. It’s like a short sermon reminding us about mostly religious issues. However since Islam is the way of life, it relates to our everyday ongoing activities also. In today’s session, it was carried out by our dean, quite a religious person(IMHO). He talked about the need to appreciate the month of Ramadan with being the best Muslim we can be. I.e. do a lot of ibadahs & cleanse our hearts. It was nice & dandy.

4th day of fasing in Ramadan

Today is the 4th day, we’re fasting in Malaysia. Muslim in other countries like Middle East may already fas for the 5th day. It seems like they always manage to find the ‘anak bulan’ or the direct translation is ‘son of the moon’. Frankly, I’m not so sure what it looks like. Someone, look it up through the telescope and Walla, if there’s ‘anak bulan’ we’ll fast and if there’s none we’ll have another day to enjoy our lunch. FYI fasting is restraining yourself from eating or drinking from sunset to sun down. Try Google if you want further info.

Improvement & focus!

I’m always trying to improve myself everyday. However maybe due to lack of focus I’m trying to do too many things at one time. Right now I’m trying to learn touch typing, learn to play guitar, trying to organize myself according to the book “Organizing for Dummies”, trying to be a good father, and juggle all my tasks. Maybe I should prioritize like that Dummies book I’m reading & hopefully master all the skills I need to master.
Testing 1 2 3 what about paragraph. If this is good I can send right from here as the email solution is not that good! Looks like it works.

Cash boost for Malaysian students

Cash boost for Malaysian students : "Cash boost for Malaysian " I would like to go to Australia now since the allowance will be increase. There's no need to do odd jobs to make end meets. This way we can really focus on our research, and come up with a great PhD. A PhD that might even get nobel prize. This is a really good news. Furthermore Australia is not that far compare to UK and the weather is more Malaysian like. I would continue my application process to University of Western Australia or maybe some other university around Perth. Since my degree was in University of Western Ontario, University of Western Australia looks like a good choice in term of the similar name. :)
