Students will be better with Open book exam?

Just now a bookstore owner told me he did a study on lecturer's using open book or close book exam. He did interviews those lecturers. He found out that student who uses open book exams perform better, has more understanding & know how to use the book better.

As we know engineering subjects esp mechanical, uses a lot of tables & graphs to get values to be plug in the equation to get the answers. Sometimes iterative calculations are needed to ensure that students get to asses different results & find the best solution to the problems.

UK system, use a lot of memorization while US systems use open books exams. After graduation, when u r working it's common to use handbooks, or manuals or searching the net for answers.

Therefore it looks like the open book exams concept look promising & can be promotoed to my ranks here at KUTKM.

They really do provide a lot of courses online or small group seminars to disseminate information.
